Following on from the public consultation held at The Quad in Derby this week for Derby’s tallest proposed building, Godwin Developments have promised to install sprinklers to each apartment. Group Land Director, Stephen Pratt said, “The building we’re proposing is fully sprinklered. All of our buildings – even the two or three storey schemes we’re building in the UK – are fully sprinklered. It’s a policy we have. You don’t have to do it, but we do. We feel it’s something that is important.” As well as installing key design features they set to include a gym, concierge and residents lounge.

Showcasing what the development is going to look like with support from members of the planning consultancy and architects on the project, the event was received well. Stephen said, “It’s been good – we’ve had people say they would love to live in a building like this. Everybody’s said they like the design and people are confident about the location as it’s an area the council has earmarked for tall buildings.”

Godwin are hoping to submit planning within three to four weeks’ time, they have taken into consideration any design changes and have the council and several of Derby’s key stakeholders on board for the scheme.

Stephen concluded, “A lot of time and effort has gone into the plans – about 16 months’ worth – and we think it’s an iconic design. We’ve changed the colour of the aluminium cladding [following discussions with Derby City Council’s planning department] and we’ve changed some of the layouts of the building to include a residents lounge and gymnasium.”

Godwin look forward to submitting planning and all being well bring much needed private rental housing to Derby city centre where young professionals and graduates alike can look to rent on a mid to long term basis.
